Los Lupenos at San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival

June 24 & 25, 2011

Los Lupeños de San José and Conjunto La Perla, commissioned by the Cashion Cultural Legacy, auditioned and were selected to perform at the 33rd annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival at the Novellus Theater at Yerba Buena Center in downtown San Francisco.

Our suite, "Plaza Guadalajara, Siglo XIX", was researched and created by Maestro René Arce Ruelas who was raised in Guadalajara, where his father taught him the traditional sones and jarabes of Jalisco from the tender age of five. Arce created this suite to depict the social dances of the 19th century, which include sones, jarabes, and jotas.
