Los Lupeños de San José is recruiting talented dancers for its Performing
Company!
Ideally candidates will have 3+ years of performance experience and be at an
advanced or high-intermediate level. Dancers must be at least 15 years old
but exceptional younger candidates will be considered. We want applicants
that are passionate about dance and have a special place in their heart for
ballet folklórico.
Los Lupeños Performing Company does not charge monthly dues, but expects a
level of commitment and professionalism for rehearsals, performances, and
other special projects. Members are expected to consistently attend evening
rehearsals twice a week (usually Mondays and Wednesdays from 7:30-10:00 PM),
perform whenever possible, and take care of costumes used for shows.
Candidates new to our material or styling may be required to take a
repertoire class offered through our Escuela (currently offered on Friday
evenings).
Auditions will be held on Thursday, April 7, 2011 at 7:30pm in the Theater
at the Mexican Heritage Plaza (1700 Alum Rock Avenue, corner King) in San
José. Dancers should bring folklórico shoes or boots and come in rehearsal
attire. Women please bring a practice skirt. During the audition we will
review técnica de zapateado and evaluate ability to learn part of a dance.
Be prepared to dance your version of La Negra or Jarabe Tapatio.
Los Lupeños has a grand repertoire of traditionally based folk dances and
has performed most recently in the San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, the
CubaCaribe Festival, and the annual SJ Mariachi Festivals. In the last
few years, dancers have also accompanied Linda Ronstadt and Mariachi Los
Camperos at venues in California, Missouri, Texas, and Washington. In 2010,
several guest instructors have worked with the Company to set new material
for upcoming performances. The trend will continue in 2011.
