Son Jarocho is a music and dance style typical to Southern Veracruz. This style features a mixture of cultures and rhythms; it contains the influence of African, Spanish and Indigenous roots. The structure of this genre is mainly of call and response. It is poetic and verses speak of nature, love, animals and/or revolution.

Patricio Hidalgo Beli, originally from San Andres Tuxtla, Veracruz, is a renowned composer, performer, teacher and scholar specializing in son jarocho and the traditional zapateado of the fandango dance. Grandson of Arcadio Hidalgo, one of the most legendary trovadores and composers of the region, he was introduced to music at the very tender age of ten. Patricio Hidalgo is a member of Mono Blanco and also is the distinguished director of diverse groups such as Chuchumbe, and Quemayama. Currently he is working on a project about Afro-Jarocho dance.
