For its second concert of the season dedicated to "Passion, Romance and Drama", MCO will present a truly unique symphonic opera event in collaboration with Santa Clara University's Music Dept., Opera Cultura and the Mexican Heritage Corporation.
Frustrated lovers, thwarted plans, delightful comedy, tragic drama. This symphonic opera "double bill" has it all! Excerpts from Acts I and II of Mozart's comic romance, Marriage of Figaro, performed by SCU's Opera Workshop singers, are paired with San Jose composer Hector Armienta's bilingual opera about a woman in 1940's Texas who struggles against her culture's traditions and the spirit of the river as she pursues her dream for a better life. Those with Mexican roots will recognize the mythical Weeping Woman (La Llorona) in this orchestral premiere of River of Women with a cast of professional singers.
