As part of Teatro Vision's West Coast premiere of School of the Americas, Oscar-nominated screenwriter José Rivera will be on hand to discuss the life and legacy of Che Guevera, one of Cuba's most revolutionary socialist leaders, as well as his own evolution as a playwright and his current projects. Teatro Vision's Artistic Director, Elisa Marina Alvarado, will lead the conversation.
José Rivera's numerous plays have been seen across the country and translated into many languages. His honors include two Obie Awards for Playwriting and a Kennedy Center Fund for New American Plays Grant, as well as grants from the NEA, the Rockefeller Foundation, and the New York Foundation for the Arts. In 2005, Rivera became the first Puerto Rican screenplay writer nominated for an Academy Award for The Motorcycle Diaries.
School of the Americas, starring Mauricio Mendoza from Showtime's Resurrection Blvd, can be seen in the Mexican Heritage Plaza Theater from January 24th through February 10th.
