Festival de Bellas Artes in honor of César Chávez

On Thursday, March 31, 2006 the City of San José will be celebrating the life of César Chávez and the holiday commemorating his work. This year, the Mexican Heritage Plaza will be hosting a month long schedule of cultural events beginning March 25, 2006 and lasting throughout the month of April.
These events are being coordinated with Chávez Family Vision Inc. of San José and will involve the active participation of Chávez family members, including César’s sister, Rita Medina, who will Co-Chair the event with San José City Councilmember Nora Campos and San José Vice Mayor Cindy Chávez.
March 25 and 26
On March 25 the annual César Chávez march will proceed from the Mexican Heritage Plaza to the Plaza de César Chávez, the festival site, in downtown San José. The march will commence at 10:00AM. On March 26, the festival will be hosted at the César Chávez Plaza, also commencing at 10:00AM.
March 31
The 5th Annual César Chávez Commemorative Breakfast, celebrating the life and work of César Chávez, at the Mexican Heritage Plaza. This event is a unique celebration of diversity and social consciousness.
April 7 & 8
A Celebration of the Sounds of Cesar Chavez’ Music Library – A Special Big Band “Double-Play” featuring a concert by one of Cesar’s favorite groups -- the Glen Miller Orchestra, at the MHP Theatre April 7, followed by the contemporary Latino big band Tito García y Su Orquesta Internacional on Saturday, April 8.

A Celebration of Cesar Chavez’ Love of Literature – A Family Literacy Fair at the Mexican Heritage Plaza, co-hosted by Grail Family Services, at the Mexican Heritage Plaza.

A Special Appearance by noted Children’s Book Author and Performer Jose Luis Orozco at the Plaza.
