Appeal to Children and their Parents
“Teatro Target” is a year-long performing arts and film series underwritten by a generous grant from Target Stores. “Teatro Target” presents low-cost and high-value entertainment for families and will feature a monthly children’s film festival with “sneak peek” movies as well as live performance art. All films will be shown in English and Spanish.
“Teatro Target” Performing Arts Programming:
Performing arts events will be curated by the MHP staff and will feature a balance of dance, music and theatre. Dance performances will be staged by Los Lupeños de San José, the Plaza’s resident dance company. Family theatre will feature ¡Cantinflas!, the October production of the Plaza’s resident theatre company, Teatro Vision. Music concerts will present local artists and nationally acclaimed children’s performers such as Jose Luis Orozco.
“Teatro Target” Children’s Film Series:
In response to the community’s request for quality family films in English and Spanish, the Mexican Heritage Plaza is pleased to announce a children’s film series in partnership with the KIDS FIRST! Film Festival, curated by the Coalition for Quality Children’s Media (CQCM).
The coalition is a 13-year-old, nonprofit 501 (c) (3) organization, which offers sneak previews of soon-to-be-released titles, classic films and independent films for an audience of 2- to 18-year-olds.Films will be programmed and advertised for different age groups. This will make it easy for parents to decide which KIDS FIRST! movies are appropriate for their particular child’s/children’s age. All films will be shown in English and Spanish.
All of the films shown must meet the KIDS FIRST! criteria, which means they are free of gratuitous violence, bias or inappropriate sexual content.
